NYC Police Unload on Left-Wing Mayor Bill de Blasio After Failed Presidential Run

Liberal mayor Bill de Blasio has been accused of being anti-cop for years–and now he’s being slammed by his own police force. The New York City Police Benevolent Association (NYC PBA) released a scathing statement hitting back at de Blasio after he ended his failed presidential bid.

De Blasio dropped out of the Democratic primary on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Friday after he was unable to increase his polling numbers over 1%, according to CNBC. During his television appearance, the failed candidate said, “contributed all I can to this primary election,” adding that “it’s clearly not my time.

The NYC PBA, a group that has spoken out against de Blasio in the past, released a statement after the mayor dropped out that said “NYC doesn’t need lame duck de Blasio.”

The statement said, “The only thing Mayor de Blasio’s presidential campaign accomplished was the alienation of hard-working New Yorkers and the deepening of serious divisions in our city, especially between his administration and New York City police officers.”

It continued, “He has squandered his credibility and lost the confidence of even his former supporters. He needs to either step aside or be removed to make way for a Mayor who actually wants the job.”

In the past, the union called for de Blasio’s immediate resignation and gave him a “no confidence vote” after office Daniel Pantaleo was fired. At the time, the NYPD’s rank and file spoke via their union boss, PBA President Patrick Lynch, whose statement echoed their disdain for de Blasio and his “political puppet” Police Commissioner James O’Neill.

The PBA president voiced a demand for New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo to use his lawful authority to remove de Blasio and O’Neill.  The statement said, “For years, Mayor de Blasio has demonized police officers and undermined our efforts to protect our city. For years, Commissioner O’Neill has cravenly acquiesced to the Mayor and his anti-cop allies. Neither can hope to regain the trust or confidence of New York City police officers. They must resign or be fired.”

Now that de Blasio is out of the presidential race, it is unclear what his future political ambitions are; it would seem he has his eye on a role in Washington, DC should a Democrat take control of the White House next November.
